Its not woowoo stuff, its pure science. If you don’t believe me have a brief look at Oxygen Advantage https://oxygenadvantage.com/pages/the-method, this is the practice I am trained in and have studied / coached for years now.
Apart from all the physical health benefits (improved blood flow and circulation, increase in HRV, diaphragm strengthening and much more) harnessing the power of your own breathing is life changing psychologically. These techniques have helped me overcome so many hurdles, from things as simple as clearing brain fog or procrastination, some of many ADHD mental barriers, to getting me out of a dark spiralling mentality due to my PTSD.
What works for me is being able to take my awareness out of my head and into my body, calm the chaos in my mind and quieten any “monkey chatter”. When we give our brain a rest, the benefits aren’t just mental clarity and room to think, but better decision making, social behaviour, emotional regulation and impulse control. These things are standard daily struggles a lot of us might face with ADHD, but the most simple and free tool we have, the reason why we are alive, our breathing, is so powerful. Let me share my favourite techniques.
Remember to go at your own pace and listen to your body!
BOX BREATHING
Not only does this help you get in the zone, but it helps you maintain a sense of alertness to carry out tasks that require pure focus, without relaxing you too much.

MANY SMALL BREATHOLDS
This simple technique only takes 2 to 3 minutes and allows you to conquer any anxiety or procrastination and helps to bring a sense of calm to the mind and body.

CADENCE BREATHING & HUMMING:
Letting go of any tension and stress at the end of the day is where this technique really works - lengthening your exhales and humming to enhance vagal tone, down regulates nervous system. Something most of us struggle with with the fast paced lives we lead.
Try it yourself and get a restorative and peaceful sleep! (cadence breathing followed by humming).

Control your breath, then you can control your mind and body.
KEEP IT NASAL!
